Chile Tax ID guide
What is a RUT in Chile?
The Rol Único Tributario is the unique tax number used to identify a company or other taxpayer before Chile's Internal Revenue Service.
Why a foreign buyer should request it
A legal name can be similar to a brand or trading name. The RUT helps you identify the precise entity that will contract, invoice and share tax evidence.
- Use it to distinguish entities with similar names.
- Match the RUT across proposals, invoices and supplied documents.
- Use it as the starting identifier for company research.
- Confirm that you are assessing the entity that will perform the contract.
Important distinction
A RUT identifies. It does not certify.
A valid identifier does not establish solvency, good standing for every purpose, technical competence or the absence of risk.
Identity
Confirm the exact legal entity and match its identifier across evidence.
Financial context
Ask the company for a current Tax Folder and assess the information it contains.
Broader evidence
Add corporate history, references, technical documents or specialist checks based on risk.
